Why do I need to verify my account?
As a professional marketplace, it's critical for us to confirm the identities of our authors. This provides a trusted environment for our customers and authors to conduct business, and maintain the success of our community.
As an Envato author, you will be required to complete an Author ID check to verify your identity. If you are a new author, this will occur when your first item is approved for sale. If you are an existing author, we will notify you when an ID check is available for you to complete.
-
What happens if I don’t complete an ID check?
Unfortunately, if you do not wish to complete an ID check, or are not able to be successfully verified, you will not be able to continue earning as an Author on our platform. This is to ensure the safety and security of both authors and customers on Envato.
In the event that you do not complete the ID check, your portfolio will be disabled (ie. removed from sale). If you wish to complete it at a later time, please let us know and we will send you a new ID check. Once you have been successfully verified, your items will be made available for sale again.
-
Is my information secure?
The security of information you provide is our #1 priority and we use multiple safeguards (technical, procedural, and physical) to ensure the safety and integrity of your data.
Our Author ID check process is backed by one of the world's leading end-to-end ID verification solutions, Jumio. As a PCI Level 1 compliant company, Jumio regularly conducts security audits, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests to ensure compliance with security best practices and standards. All data is transmitted using secure transport with strong cipher suites and stored encrypted using AES256.
The collection and processing of any identity data is undertaken in accordance with our Privacy Policy and any additional privacy notices or collection statements made available to you during the identity verification process.

What happens to my personal information after the check?
All ID check data is erased a short time after you complete your check. We do not store your ID or selfie images.
-
Will my ID information be shown publicly?
Your ID information is not shown publicly and is not visible to anyone except Jumio verification staff and our Author ID team, all of whom are trained in handling sensitive information.
-
I am trying to complete the check but it shows an error or crashes - what is going wrong?
Please make sure you are using a device with a camera (such as a laptop or a smartphone) and a supported browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge).
Some other things you can try if the issue persists are:
- Ensure you are using the default camera for your device
- Ensure your browser has access to your device camera
- Try using a different browser, or incognito/private browsing mode (to avoid issues with cookies/caching)
- Try using a different device
Please DO NOT send images of your ID via email.
-
Why isn’t my government-issued ID supported by the verification system?
Jumio cannot verify all types of ID from all countries - some authors may have the option to use their ID card or driver’s license to complete their check, while others will need a passport.
Some examples of IDs that may not be supported include:
- Handwritten IDs
- IDs that are still valid but have been superseded by newer versions (e.g. older, simple ID cards that have been superseded by newer, “smart” ID cards)
- Alien/refugee passports
- Digital IDs.
-
My Envato account uses my company name / I operate as a partnership - how can I complete verification?
While you may operate your Envato account as a company or partnership and your account username can reflect this, we require an individual person to be listed as the account holder. This person must be nominated on your tax forms and be the one to complete the ID check. You may not list your company name (or a variation thereof) as the first and last name on your account.
-
How will I know if I have successfully completed the check?
You will receive an email when your check has been processed - this may take up to two weeks after you complete your check. You can also check Verify to see the status of your check.
-
My ID is expired, can I still use it?
You can complete a check with an expired ID if it expired within the last 12 months. If your ID expired more than 12 months ago and you do not have another ID you can use to complete the check, please contact the Author ID team for assistance.
