Introduction
Envato collects tax on Author Fees in a small number of countries, based on local tax laws. We apply tax only where required by local legislation and regularly review our obligations. This article helps you check whether you're affected and what to do if needed.
Does this apply to me?
You may see tax added to your Author Fees if your billing address is in:
Canada, Mexico, South Africa, or Türkiye.
If you’re not based in one of these countries, you’re not currently affected, and there’s nothing you need to do.
What will I see?
If tax applies, you’ll see an amount added to the Author Fees charged by Envato. These charges will appear in:
- Your Envato Market statement, and
- Your Author Fee invoices.
The type and rate of tax vary depending on your country (e.g. GST, VAT, HST).
What do you need to do?
If you're based in one of the affected countries and your account is for business use, you can add your tax registration number (e.g. VAT, GST, or RFC number) to your Envato billing details:
- Log in to your Market account and go to Settings under your username.
- Under Billing Details, select your country and province (if applicable). A Tax ID number field will appear; enter your valid Tax ID number.
-
Make sure your billing information is accurate and up to date and save your changes.
-
Review your statements. Check your Envato Market statements and invoices to see how tax is applied
Note: Changes will apply from your next invoice and can’t be applied retroactively.
