Summary: This article outlines how to create and upload video previews within the CSS category for Code items.
As items within the CSS category are highly susceptible to theft, we do not host live previews. Instead, authors are encouraged to upload 10-30 second video clips, which illustrate the effect of their items.
To create a video preview, you will need to record a video using a screencasting service. When submitting a new item to the CSS category on CodeCanyon, there will be an option to upload a short video in the FLV format. We have included some guidelines on recording and exporting your video preview in the following sections.
Screencasting Software
There are lots of options when it comes to choosing screencasting software. We have listed some suggestions below, but there are other solutions out there that will work just as well. All you need is a way to easily record your screen and download the finished video as an .MP4 or .FLV.

Recording Video Previews
Following are the guidelines for recording video previews:
- Keep them short; otherwise, the potential customer will lose interest. Try to limit your preview to 10-30 seconds in length.
- You are not required to speak in your video. It's encouraged; however, if you do not have a microphone available, your voice is not required.
- Many authors record multiple videos for their items, including for the purposes of documentation. While only one video may be used for your featured preview, you can link to more from within your item's description section, as well as your help file.
Submit an .FLV Video
Once you have created your video, you need to upload it as an .FLV file. Most screencasting services will not give you the option to export your video as .FLV, so you will need to convert it using another service. We recommend HandBrake, an open source option that is free to use. Export your video screencast as .MP4 and convert it to .FLV.
With your .FLV video preview in hand, you are ready to upload your awesome new item to the CSS category!
Alternatively, If you are having trouble converting your file to the .FLV format, you can request further assistance from a reviewer, or host the .MP4 elsewhere and link to it from your item description.
