What Assets Can I Use in My Items?

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct rights to use any assets. Please read more about what assets you can use but our two core rules are:

a) You can only use assets in your items that you own or have a license to use. This includes in the item preview.
b) You can also use watermarked Envato Market assets in your own item previews only if you give the other author credit and link to their item. 

Can I Buy a Plugin and Use it in My Item?

Our license terms do not allow the distribution of another authors item on Envato, however, there are some exceptions. Please review our license terms, specifically this section for more information.

Can I Submit my Design First to See if it will be Approved Ahead of Submitting Code?

If you are submitting an asset that contains both code and design elements then you must submit a complete item for review.

Can I Use my Own Licensing System / Can I Encrypt My Item?

Envato does allow authors to access our API so you can verify if a user has a valid purchase code for your web and code items only.

Note: this is not allowed for other content types. For WordPress Theme specific requirements, please see the Purchase Verification section of the requirements.

I Have a Large Portfolio of Items, Can I Bulk Upload These?

Yes! We have a number of upload methods that support faster and more reliable uploads of large and multiple files. This also differs depending on the content type you are uploading.

Do I Need to Submit a Model or Property Release?

When uploading footage or images that depict recognisable people or identifiable buildings, you must acquire a signed release form.

Can I Submit Music If I am Affiliated With a PRO?

Yes, this is accepted. Even if your music is not sold with us, if you are affiliated with any Personal Rights Organisation, you must declare this on your Author Profile.

How does Item Bundles or Splitting Items Work on Envato Elements?

In an effort to create a great experience for customers and keep Envato Elements fair and balanced for all participating authors, Multi Item Bundles are not allowed.

To be clear, we're talking about large bundles packed full of multiple item types and designed to entice greater downloads via the quantity and value included. Instead of focussing on Quantity, you should focus on Quality as a measure for attracting customers to purchase your items.

Splitting Items:
Together with your help, we want to provide the best experience we can for customers and suggest you use common sense when deciding how your items should be packaged. In many cases, keeping items in "Packs" is preferable and is more useful for the subscriber.

Some examples are Icon Packs, Font Families, Infographics, Product Mockup Sets & Wedding Invitation Packs, you should avoid splitting out items such as these into separate items unless it's in the best interest of subscribers to do so. In some cases these categories also receive more Item Points than others on the basis that they offer a complete package to customers.

Any efforts to deliberately game the system and try to increase downloads by either bundling or splitting out your items will not be tolerated.

To help best explain what is expected, please see what is allowed and not allowed, as well as some more common FAQs related to this topic below.

Allowed:

• Packaging together related things, for example, stationery packs, product mockup sets, business card sets, flyer templates or facebook post banners.
• Icon packs (Icons that are created as a set should remain a single item).
• Infographics (Similarly themed Infographic design elements should be packaged, rather than offered individually).
• Packaging together font styles that are all part of the same font family.
• Including items that are a natural complement to the primary item. For example: Script typeface including an ornaments photoshop brush.
• Listing items individually if in the interest of subscribers to do so is allowed. In the case of product mockups we prefer and will allow sets (where the mockups are related, from the same shoot and intended as a set) we will also allow product mockups that are a single item where sensible to do so.

Not Allowed:

• Multi item bundles, e.g. 3 Email templates, 5 fonts, 5 product mockups, etc.
• Font bundles including more than 1 font family.
• Splitting a font family into individual styles.
• Listing Infographic assets/elements as individual items rather than in a pack of similarly themed assets.
• Creating multiple UX and UI Kits by remixing and resizing the same base assets.

I am a Graphics Author, Can I Use the Same Design Style for Different Items?

Yes. If you create a set of designs that use the same style, you can upload them as individual files, or as a pack of related files.

You cannot remix and resize the same base elements, this is still considered an item split. Only the visual style can be the same across items.

Example:
A minimal style print design for a business card, letterhead and a presentation folder. An author can upload the items individually or as a stationery pack. All items are categorised as Print Templates in the Graphic Templates category. The author can upload additional designs in the same style as long as the content of the files are different.

Egotype’s Stationery Pack and Invoice Template have the same style with different content. One item is a collection of templates and one is an individual item.

Please note: Both items include an invoice template, however the design layout is unique for each file.

Can I Make One UX and UI design for Different Social Media Platforms and Websites and Upload it to Elements as Individual Files?

No. For example, a social media campaign that has a family of templates for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Google Advertising and Websites should be bundled into one UX and UI kit. This is because the templates are intended to be used as a collection of assets that have the same design across different dimensions.

Can I Export my Graphic Template for Different Applications and Upload Them Individually?

No. In the Graphic Templates category, application supported and file types is a search facet. Applications Supported is not a category. You need to include all of the file types in one upload.

Don't upload one graphic template as individual items for different file types.

Do upload one item that supports different applications and includes multiple file types.
Example:
An author with a User Interface Kit created for the Graphic Templates category cannot upload application versions as individual files. They must upload the design and related files once to the UX and UI Kits category and select the Applications Supported and the File Types Included in the upload interface.

Can I Use Open-Source Files in my Item for Sale?

If the author(s) have given express written permission in their documentation that their open-source files are allowed to be used for resale, then you can use them in your item.

However, you will need to: 

- credit the author(s) in your file description. It needs to be transparent to reviewers and buyers where your open-source elements came from.

- Whatever you do with an open-source file must follow their terms of use.

- you must add significant value to the item to create a unique product.  We do not allow items on Envato that could be downloaded for free by a customer from elsewhere, with little or no value added. 

What Links Can I Place In My Item Description, Preview or Download?

Links should be respectful of Envato platforms and not seek to drive traffic to any external, competing site or service (including linking to items for sale on your personal website).

The only links you should use are those redirecting to the following:

• Items that need to be attributed or sourced, for example, Creative Commons imagery you may have used in your item preview or watermarked Envato Market items.
• Online documentation or support forums if you run external support services.
• Third-party content used in your items for technical/descriptive purposes, for example, open source code libraries, third-party plugins, content management systems, APIs, etc.
• Additional demos and alternate previews of your items.
• Social media accounts, for example, your personal Twitter account.

Linking to competing sites and brands is governed by a fair use policy. We ask authors not to promote alternative ways to purchase the same or similar items available on Envato through other websites and services.

This policy extends to links from live previews of items and support forums, which should also not promote an alternative site or service. If you are a non-exclusive author, this may necessitate a separate live preview intended specifically for Envato.

Does my Item Belong in Graphics or Photos?

Generally, photos on Envato are strictly for photographs, while GraphicRiver is for editable design assets and templates. Still, for particular types of images and non-standard photos it can sometimes be tricky to decide where to upload.

As a rule of thumb, before submitting an image to Envato, always ask yourself:

Textures
For photographs intended primarily for use as textures/patterns, we recommend that you submit these to the textures category on GraphicRiver as an individual texture or texture pack.

For example textures of wood, paper, fabric, etc., where one or more of the following apply:

• The image is shot with a flat-on, more 2-dimensional perspective
• The pattern/object is relatively uniform and fills the entire image
• The image is seamlessly tileable

Submit these to GraphicRiver > Textures

Can I Also Add my Scene Generator to the Product Mockups Category?

The Scene Generators category on Envato Elements is intended for scene, product or hero image generator item types. These items include isolated objects allowing for creation of a unique scene and this is what sets them apart from traditional Product Mockups.

Yes, you can add your Scene Generator to the Product Mockups Category if you think your item applies to both categories. You’ll then need to select both during the upload process. If the possible end result provides a space or placeholder to focus on a specific product (e.g. Laptop, Phone, Wine Bottle, Website etc) then the Product Mockups category is suitable.

What are Item States?

On Envato Market, your item could be in one of the below item states;

Approved/Published: Your item is live and for sale on Envato, Congratulations!

Soft-Rejected: Your item requires only minor changes or improvements in order to be approved. The reviewer will provide you with instructions on how to update your item so that it is suitable, and then you can resubmit it for review again. Be sure to make the requested updates before resubmitting the item so you don’t wait unnecessarily.

Hard-Rejected: This means that during the review process, regrettably your item was deemed not suitable for Envato. Hard-rejected items cannot be resubmitted.

Soft-disabled: Some time after your item being published, we may be alerted to an issue with it and need to remove the item temporarily. You will always receive an email with the reasons for disablement, and how you can fix the issue. You can resubmit a soft-disabled item through your Hidden Items page, after making the requested updates.

Hard-Disabled: Some time after your item being published, we may be alerted to an issue with it that requires your item to be removed permanently. Hard-disabled items cannot be edited, updated or submitted again. You will be notified via email with the reason for hard-disablement.

Are you a Graphics author on Envato Elements?
For Graphics on Envato Elements, you upload these items via a different system, and so some terms are different.
Draft: You can upload an item but not press submit to the reviewers; this will keep the item as a draft until you are ready to submit it.
Changes Required: Either during review or afterwards, your item requires some changes before it can be approved on Elements. These items can be resubmitted once you have made the requested changes.
Rejected: Unfortunately your item has been deemed not suitable for Envato Elements and it cannot be edited, updated or submitted again. If the item was removed after it was published, this means we may have found a problem with it that caused it to be removed. In this case you will receive an email explaining the reasons, and the item will be in the ‘rejected’ tab of your Elements dashboard.

The best way to see what customers are buying and looking for is via our trending feature on any of our platforms. The trending filter will show which items are receiving the most interest and sales at this moment.
