This article will help you understand what links you can and can't include in your item description, preview and item download.
Your item page, live preview, and support forums are spaces where customers evaluate and get help with your item. Links you include should serve that purpose — helping customers understand, use, and get support for what they've purchased or are considering purchasing.Links should be respectful of Envato platforms and not seek to drive traffic to any external, competing site or service (including linking to items for sale on your personal website).
Linking to competing sites and brands is governed by a fair use policy. We ask authors not to promote alternative ways to purchase the same or similar items available on Envato through other websites and services.
What you can link to:
The following types of links are permitted:
- Attribution and sourcing: Links to third-party assets used in your item or preview, such as Creative Commons imagery, fonts, or watermarked Envato Market items that require attribution.
- Documentation and support: Links to your external documentation, knowledge bases, or support forums where customers can get help with your item.
- Third-party technical dependencies: Third-party content used in your items for technical/descriptive purposes, for example, open source code libraries, third-party plugins, content management systems, APIs, etc.
-
Your own add-ons and extensions: You may link to add-ons or extensions that directly relate to your item (whether they are sold on Envato or on your own site), provided those add-ons require the Envato item to be purchased first - they must not function as a standalone alternative to it. These links should help existing or prospective customers get more value from the item they've purchased or are considering purchasing on Envato.
- Keep in mind that the description and item preview are to help the customer to make an informed decision about your item. External links to add-ons or extensions cannot overwhelm, mislead or obstruct the relevant item information in your description or preview.
- Additional demos and previews: Links to alternate demos, previews, or feature showcases for the same item.
- Your social media: Links to your professional social media accounts, such as your Twitter or Instagram.
- Promote recommended third party hosting services (conditions apply), or your own installation or customization services in your item description (conditions apply).
Ask yourself: does this link help explain my item or help the customer get more value from this item? If it's primarily there to promote something else or redirect Envato customers away from Envato, it isn't allowed.
What you can't link to:
- The same item/s elsewhere: The same item available for purchase on your own website or on any other platform.
- Unrelated products: Unrelated items, or the rest of your catalogue, on your own website or elsewhere.
- Unrelated commercial promotions: Links that exist primarily to drive sales of products unrelated to the item being viewed. Your item page exists to help customers make a decision about that item - not as general advertising space.
- Misleading or deceptive links: Links that misrepresent where they go or what they're for.
- Additional incentives: You can't link to, advertise or promote any additional incentives for the purchase of your item beyond its functionality and the Envato Market Item Support policy, if you support your item. Review the Item Promotion Guidelines for more information.
- Links that violate our other policies: Any links to content that would otherwise breach Envato's terms, policies or community guidelines.
The same principles apply to links included in your live preview/demo. If you also sell your items on your own website, this may necessitate a separate live preview for Envato to ensure any links in the Envato preview are directed to purchase from Envato Market.
