Part Four of our Get Started Guide is all about understanding legal and integrity responsibilities that you have as an author, to ensure that you’re clear on the rules in relation to the items you contribute to Elements. These can be found in more detail in the author terms.
As you start your journey on Elements, it’s important to understand your responsibility in ensuring you are compliant with the intellectual property rights of others and that when you publish an item, you warrant to us that you have the necessary rights to do so.
This includes engaging with important legal considerations such as, Intellectual Property and Copyright, Model and Property Releases, Trademarks and Real World Items.
For audio items, this means understanding our policies and what constitutes infringement of copyright when creating your own tracks and what is allowed or not allowed. We also have specific guidelines restricting use of out-of-the-box-content or pre-made audio loops in Elements audio. Similarly, authors clearly need to stay away from emulating any other musicians’ works as per Envato's Pastiche Policy.
In addition to meeting the legal requirements, we also value how you act towards the Envato Elements platform and the community - this is what we call Author Integrity.
It is ultimately an author's responsibility to maintain the quality and integrity of their items. This ensures the standard of our audio library is maintained and customers can receive reliable quality stock audio by demonstrating respect to its fellow community.
We want you to succeed on Envato Elements, but in a way that plays by the rules and with fairness to your fellow community members and us. Selling well is one thing, but selling with integrity is another, as you certainly know.
Rest assured that the library is monitored on a regular basis to help check that everyone is playing by the rules. Non-compliance with the rules can have major consequences including: temporary or permanent termination of an account, along with the freezing of earnings.
So please get to know more about what we expect of Envato Elements authors and the specific legal requirements that applies to you as an Elements author.
